Values

Finding Peace of Mind

ABOUT THIS COURSE

Values play an important role in how we think, feel, behave, and make decisions. In this course, Professor Steve Peters explains what values are, why they are unique to each person, and how they influence peace of mind.

Using neuroscience and The Chimp Model, Steve explores how the mind responds when we act in line with our values — and what happens when we go against them. The course focuses on understanding the connection between values, decision making, relationships, stress, and emotional wellbeing.

Throughout the course, Steve encourages you to reflect on your own values, the actions attached to them, and how clearly they guide your decisions and behaviours in everyday life.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

This course explores what values are, why they are important, and how they influence the way we think, behave, and relate to other people. The focus is on understanding how values help create peace of mind, guide decisions, and support emotional stability.

Steve explains the difference between values and things that are simply valuable to us. Values are moral or ethical beliefs that have actions attached to them and are unique to everyone.

Steve explains why happiness and peace of mind are not always the same thing. Sometimes doing the right thing may feel uncomfortable in the short term but still bring a deeper sense of peace and stability.

Values can help guide decision making, particularly during conflict or uncertainty. The course explores why it is important to understand your values clearly and place them into a personal hierarchy.

Shared values often strengthen relationships and help create trust, understanding, and stability. Steve explains why values can play an important role in friendships, family relationships, and partnerships.

The course encourages you to reflect on how you demonstrate your values in everyday life. Steve explains how measuring actions and behaviours can help reinforce values and bring greater peace of mind.
