High Performing Individuals
Within a Team
ABOUT THIS COURSE
This course explores what it means to be a high performing individual within a team. Rather than focusing on organisational structures or technical ability, Professor Steve Peters looks at the emotional skills and behaviours that help individuals contribute positively within a team environment. The focus is on self-reflection, accountability, communication, emotional management, and aligning yourself with
the values and processes of the team.
Throughout the course, Steve explains how high performing individuals regularly appraise themselves, manage their emotions effectively, support others within the team, and contribute to a positive and constructive environment. The aim is not perfection, but developing the awareness and emotional skills needed to help both yourself and the team perform consistently well.

Steve highlights how communication can either support or damage a team environment. The course looks at assertiveness, passive aggression, silence, and the importance of addressing issues constructively.
High performing individuals see themselves as part of the team rather than separate from it. The focus is on encouraging others, avoiding judgement, and contributing to a supportive and constructive culture.
The course explores the difference between energy givers and energy sappers, and how attitude, communication, and emotional management influence the atmosphere and performance of the team.

Energy Giver
By Nigel June 2, 2026
The energy giver part was very helpful. I am the CEO, so I am often working with sub team in the organisation. It can be easy to become critical and suck the energy out of the team. This was useful in helping me think through approaches.
