Managing Change

Moving Forward

ABOUT THIS COURSE

Change is a normal part of life, but it can often feel unsettling and difficult to navigate. In this course, Professor Steve Peters explains why change can be challenging for the mind and how understanding the Human, Chimp, and Computer can help you move through it more effectively.

Whether you are managing change in your own life or supporting others through it, Steve explores how each part of the mind responds differently. The course looks at why change can trigger uncertainty, resistance, and emotional reactions, and how practical and emotional plans can help you move forward with greater confidence.

The focus of this course is on understanding what is happening in your mind, accepting the reality of change where necessary, and developing the emotional skills needed to adapt successfully.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

This course explores why change can feel difficult and how understanding the Human, Chimp, and Computer can help you adapt more effectively. The focus is on recognising emotional responses, creating practical plans, and developing the skills to move forward.

Steve explains why the brain naturally resists change. The Chimp seeks security and familiarity, while the Human must work with reality and create a plan for moving forward.

Each part of the mind approaches change differently. Understanding these different responses helps explain why change can feel emotionally challenging, even when it is positive.

The course explores practical ways to help the Chimp manage uncertainty, including emotional expression, reassurance, reducing overwhelm, and creating a sense of security.

Steve explains why accepting reality is often the starting point for successful change. Using perspective helps place change into context and makes it easier to focus on what can be influenced.

Successful change requires more than good intentions. The course explores how to create practical plans for the Human, emotional plans for the Chimp, and new habits within the Computer to support lasting change.

Whether you’re leading a team or supporting someone personally, Steve explains how emotional skills, communication, transparency, and shared ownership can make change easier for everyone involved.

  • How to use all three systems to manage change

    By Rocket 🚀 July 20, 2026

Steve manages to cram lots of neuroscience and practical info into this course, on what is a very unique experience for everyone
I will find this very helpful for managing change at work, my personal life and in my sport – for myself and others
I thought stress was all about the Chimp but it’s more about how my human can manage my Chimp system better. Very useful we can revisit courses too

I can get some “human hijack” Steve touches on and would love a course on this 😉
