Self-Confidence

How to Attain It

ABOUT THIS COURSE

Self-confidence is often thought of as something we either have or we don’t. In this course, Professor Steve Peters explains why neuroscience suggests something very different.

Using The Chimp Model, Steve explores how the Chimp and the Human base self-confidence on completely different things. He explains why confidence that relies on external factors can often feel fragile, and how developing a more Human approach can lead to greater stability over time.

Throughout the course, Steve shares practical examples and simple ways to recognise what is influencing your confidence, helping you understand how to move away from relying on external validation and towards a more stable foundation based on your own values, perspective and reality.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

This course explores how self-confidence develops through the Human and Chimp systems, why confidence can sometimes feel unstable, and how understanding the way your mind works can help you approach challenges with greater confidence.

Steve explains how the Chimp and the Human each base self-confidence on different foundations, and why recognising which system is driving your thinking is the first step towards attaining more stable confidence.

The course explores why the Chimp naturally looks for confidence through success, approval, possessions and appearance, while the Human develops confidence through values, effort and self-approval.

Steve explains why attaining self-confidence is a skill of recognising when the Chimp is in control and learning to move into Human mode, where confidence becomes more stable and within your control.

Rather than measuring yourself by outcomes alone, Steve explores the importance of values, doing your best, accepting reality and developing a healthier perspective when facing challenges.

Steve explains why attaining self-confidence is a skill. The course explores practical ways to recognise when the Chimp is driving your confidence and how to develop a more Human approach based on values, reality, and perspective.
